Hello to all hands, hearts and hammers!

Are you ready to help build the beating heart of Joy’ce Kingdom? Imagine one month immersed in nature, natural building and community, working alongside 15 fellow volunteers to create something that will last for years to come. This September, we’re inviting a team of volunteers to join us as we build The Joyce’ful Kitchen We Dream Of, our first ever indoor gathering space.

During your month with us, you’ll:

• learn natural building techniques from an experienced specialist, working with earth, wood and your own two hands,
• take part in the daily rhythm of a small international community, living in tents nestled among trees, with cicadas singing through the day and small critters running about,
• help create a space that will hold our books, boardgames and movie nights, and become the place for rainy days and quiet evenings,
• share the land at the same time as worldschooling families passing through Joy’ce Kingdom, swapping travel stories and lending a hand where they can,
• learn from a range of trainers across diverse subjects, and just as often, from each other.

We begin together, simply, with community building, taking time to connect and settle in before any tools come out. Then a natural building specialist coming directly from cob.gr joins us for a full week, guiding the practical skills behind the build. For the rest of the month, further trainers lead sessions on different subjects, while daily life at Joy’ce Kingdom teaches the rest.

On the magical mountain of the beautiful island of Skiathos, Greece, in our newly-established farm, Joy’ce Kingdom

From the 3rd of September (arrival day) to the 4th of October 2026 (departure day).

Accomodation ?

Wild camping style, in the nature, in tents, caravans and vans (depending on availability and willingness to share), with compost toilets and outdoor showers.

How to arrive ?

Here are some options for getting to Skiathos:

1. Direct Flight from Athens: The easiest way is to check which days there are flights from Athens to Skiathos and plan your arrival in Athens accordingly. While it might be slightly more expensive than taking the bus and boat, it’s definitely more convenient.
2. Bus and Boat from Athens: The second easiest way is to take a bus from Athens to Mantoudi and catch a boat to Skiathos. When booking your bus ticket, remember that the port is called Kymasi—don’t head to the village of Mantoudi! Alternatively, boats also depart from Agios Konstantinos and Volos. 3. Charter Flights: During the summer, there are charter flights directly to Skiathos or Volos from England, Italy, France, Germany and more. It’s worth checking these options as well!

The Joyce’ful Kitchen We Dream Of – Building Together, Living Together

At Joyce ‘n’ Fun, we believe in the deep connection between people, nature and learning.

The Joyce’ful Kitchen We Dream Of is a one month European Solidarity Corps volunteering experience for those who feel called to build something real, live simply alongside others, and leave a lasting mark on a place that has grown, slowly and by hand, over many years.

This is not just a construction project.
It is an experience of living together, where learning happens through doing, relating and building side by side.

🌿 The Three Pillars of the Experience

The experience unfolds through three interconnected dimensions: Building, Land, and Community.

🧱 Building: Skill, Patience, and Craft

For one month, volunteers take part in the creation of our first indoor gathering space, an indoor kitchen and eating area built from earth, wood and care.

Volunteers take part in:

• learning natural building techniques from an experienced specialist
• hands-on construction work, from earth and wood to finishing details
• problem solving and collaborative decision making around the build
• the satisfaction of watching something rise, day by day, from nothing

This is not about quick results, but about patience, precision and pride in shared work.

🌱 Land: Caring, Growing, Rooting

The land holds the project, and shapes its rhythm.

Volunteers take part in:

• daily life connected to the seasons and the space around them
• light gardening and care of the land alongside building work
• small maintenance tasks that support life at Joy’ce Kingdom
• hands-on tasks that support a simple, sustainable lifestyle

This month, the land becomes a building site, and a home, at the same time.

Community life is the thread that connects everything.

Volunteers are part of:

• daily morning meetings and shared decision making
• cooking and everyday responsibilities
• sharing the land with worldschooling families passing through, swapping travel stories along the way
• welcoming trainers and specialists as they come and go
• supporting communication and social media around the build

🍂 A Focused, Grounded Month

The rhythm of the month unfolds in stages.

We begin together, simply, with community building, taking time to connect and settle in before any tools come out.

A natural building specialist then joins for a full week, guiding the practical skills behind the build, from earth and wood techniques to hands-on construction.

For the rest of the month, further trainers lead sessions on diverse subjects, while daily life at Joy’ce Kingdom teaches the rest, alongside the steady, physical work of raising the kitchen.

This period invites a grounded, intentional rhythm and the deep satisfaction of building something lasting together.

🌿 Living Off Grid: Simplicity and Adaptation

Joy’ce Kingdom is an off grid space, and this shapes daily life.

• electricity comes from solar energy
• tents are nestled among trees, with cicadas singing through the day and small critters running about
• there is currently no indoor common space, which is exactly why we are building one
• life is shared with volunteers, worldschooling families, and visitors
• and one very affectionate, love-addict dog

This environment invites you to slow down, adapt and reconnect with what is essential.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for volunteers who are curious, open-hearted and ready to get their hands dirty. No previous building experience is needed, only willingness to learn and a positive attitude toward teamwork. Comfort with basic living conditions, shared spaces and outdoor life matters more than any specific skill.

If you’re drawn to natural building, sustainable living or simply want to be part of something real, this project is for you.

Accommodation and getting around

Accommodation is shared tent living at Joy’ce Kingdom, close to nature and the sea, with meals included and shared daily.

A new bus stop has just opened next to our place, though we don’t yet know how frequent buses will be in September. Volunteers with a 125cc licence can use our scooter, and hitch hiking is common and easy here. For arrival and departure, I will personally arrange transportation from the port or airport, so just share your travel details once confirmed.

Accommodation, food and pocket money are covered.
Travel costs are reimbursed according to distance.
