ESC Individual volunteering From May the 4th or beginning of August to end of September 2026 : Earth to Heart – Living, Learning, and Thriving in Community

Event Description

Hello to all lifelong learners aged 18 to 30!

Are you ready for a transformative adventure? Imagine spending months immersed in nature, creativity, and community. At Earth to Heart, we invite passionate volunteers to join us for an enriching experience of off-grid living and collaborative learning.

From May to September, you’ll:

  • connect with children and families through arts and crafts activities,
  • take part in the daily rhythm of a small international community
  • care for and cultivate the land,
  • contribute to eco-projects and the creation of our first indoor gathering space,
  • explore a lifestyle of sustainability, hands-on learning, and shared responsibility.

Are you in? Let’s grow, create, and live together! At Joy’ce Kingdom, your stay is fully supported by the European Solidarity Corps, including food, accommodation, and pocket money.

What ?

ESC Individual volunteering; Infopack HERE

Who ?

For 18-30-year-olds eager to embrace community living, sustainability, and hands-on experiences while sharing skills and learning together.

Where?

On the magical mountain of the beautiful island of Skiathos, Greece, in our newly-established farm, Joy’ce Kingdom

When ?

From May the 4th (arrival day of the long-term volunteers) or 1st of August (arrival day of the short-term volunteers) to end of September  2026

Accomodation ?

Wild camping style, in the nature, in tents, caravans and vans, with compost toilets and outdoor showers.

How to arrive ?

Here are some options for getting to Skiathos:

  1. Direct Flight from Athens: The easiest way is to check which days there are flights from Athens to Skiathos and plan your arrival in Athens accordingly. While it might be slightly more expensive than taking the bus and boat, it’s definitely more convenient.
  2. Bus and Boat from Athens: The second easiest way is to take a bus from Athens to Mantoudi and catch a boat to Skiathos. When booking your bus ticket, remember that the port is called Kymasi—don’t head to the village of Mantoudi! Alternatively, boats also depart from Agios Konstantinos and Volos. You can check the schedules for all these routes on Openseas.
  3. Charter Flights: During the summer, there are charter flights directly to Skiathos or Volos from England, Italy, France, Germany and more. It’s worth checking these options as well!

What will happen ?

Earth to Heart – Living, Learning, and Thriving in Community

At Joyce ‘n’ Fun, we believe in the deep connection between people, nature, and learning.

Earth to Heart is a long term European Solidarity Corps volunteering experience for those who feel called to live simply, share daily life, and contribute to a growing learning space rooted in care, creativity, and sustainability.

This is not just a volunteering project.
It is an experience of living together, where learning happens through doing, relating, and being part of something real.

🌿 The Three Pillars of the Experience

The experience naturally unfolds through three interconnected dimensions: Children, Land, and Community.

🎨 Children: Creativity, Presence, and Joy

During the summer months, Joy’ce Kingdom welcomes children and families from around the world, alongside local participants.

Volunteers support this vibrant environment by:

  • assisting in arts and crafts activities
    • helping create a safe, warm, and inspiring atmosphere
    • engaging with children through play, creativity, and presence
    • supporting the natural flow of daily activities

This is not about formal teaching, but about being present, attentive, and creative.

🌱 Land: Caring, Growing, Building

The land is at the heart of the experience.

Volunteers take part in:

  • gardening and care of the space
    • small maintenance and improvement projects
    • preparation and support for natural building activities
    • hands-on tasks that support a simple, sustainable lifestyle

In September, this dimension becomes more central, as we begin creating our first indoor common gathering space together.

🫶 Community: Living and Creating Together

Community life is the thread that connects everything.

Volunteers are part of:

  • daily morning meetings and shared decision making
    • cooking and everyday responsibilities
    • welcoming new volunteers and visitors
    • supporting communication and social media
    • sharing information about
    European Solidarity Corps
and Erasmus+ with the local community

You are not just helping a project.
You are co-creating a living environment.

🌞 A Seasonal Experience

The rhythm of the experience evolves over time.

🌿 Late Spring – May and June

A time of arrival, grounding, and preparation.

Volunteers become part of the daily life of Joy’ce Kingdom while helping prepare the space for the summer season.

This includes:

  • settling into community life and shared rhythms
    • caring for the land and outdoor spaces
    • preparing activity areas and common spaces
    • supporting small improvements and practical tasks
    • getting familiar with the flow of the place

This period is calmer, allowing space to arrive, connect, and learn by doing.

🌞 Summer – July and August

A lively and dynamic period, with:

  • arts and crafts camps
    • families and children from different cultures
    • a vibrant, social, and creative atmosphere

🍂 Early Autumn – September

A more grounded and focused time:

  • natural building activities
    • physical, hands-on collaboration
    • deeper team connection
    • creating our first indoor gathering space

This period invites a slower, more intentional rhythm and the satisfaction of building something lasting together.

🌿 Living Off Grid: Simplicity and Adaptation

Joy’ce Kingdom is an off grid space, and this shapes daily life.

  • electricity comes from solar energy
    • most activities take place outdoors
    • there is currently no indoor common space
    • life is shared with volunteers, families, children, and visitors
    • and one very affectionate, love-addict dog

This environment invites you to slow down, adapt, and reconnect with what is essential.

🌱 Learning, Growing, Creating Together

This experience offers space for:

  • personal growth and self reflection
    • learning through hands-on practice
    • creativity and initiative
    • connection with people from different cultures

You are encouraged to bring your ideas, your energy, and your curiosity.

You do not need special skills.

What matters is your presence, openness, and willingness to contribute.

🌍 An Accessible Experience

This project is funded by the
European Solidarity Corps.

Accommodation, food, and pocket money are covered.
Travel costs are reimbursed according to distance.

💚 Who is this for

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • are 18 to 30 years old
    • are based in Europe
    • are curious, adaptable, and responsible
    • are open to community life and simple living

✨ More than a place

Joy’ce Kingdom is not just a place.

It is a space where people come together to live, learn, and grow.

A space of shared meals, spontaneous moments, challenges, laughter, and creation.

A space where something real is being built.
Both on the land, and between people.

How to Apply

We are looking for volunteers aged 18–30 who feel curious about community life, simple living, and learning by doing.

If this experience resonates with you, we would love to hear from you.

For the long-term opportunity from May to September included, please fill in THIS FORM before the 10th of April to apply for the upcoming Earth to Heart season. Applications are reviewed as they are received, and spots may fill before the deadline, so we encourage you to apply early.
