10+1 Things to Know Before You Come
We want your experience here to feel good and aligned.
These points will help you understand what life here really looks like before you decide to join.
Life at Joy’ce Kingdom is simple, raw, and deeply connected to nature. It is not for everyone, and that is exactly the point. Here are a few things we invite you to truly consider before joining us:
- There is no indoor common space.
Our shared life happens outdoors. The kitchen is covered and can shelter us during rain, but it remains a small, open space shaped by the elements.
2. The family home is a private space.
You may be invited in at times, especially during extreme weather, yet we protect it as a place of rest and privacy for the children.
3. Hot water takes time and presence.
Showers are heated by the sun in summer and by fire in colder months. When using fire, it can take around twenty minutes to warm the water.
4. Electricity is solar powered.
In cloudy periods, a generator may run for a few hours in the evening and can be noisy.
5. You will be sharing the land with animals.
At least one dog lives here at all times. Rainbow, our love-addict companion, will likely greet you with great enthusiasm and a desire for connection. She is gentle and understands boundaries, but if you feel uncomfortable around dogs, this may not be the right environment for you. A cat also shares the space.
6. Sleeping arrangements may shift with the weather.
If you stay in a caravan, you may be asked to share it if conditions do not allow for camping and more people need shelter. We always communicate this with care and in advance.
7. The land is alive, and not curated.
You will encounter chaos. Tools, materials, and what we like to call “treasures” scattered around, waiting to be up-cycled. This is a space of creation, not perfection.
8. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility.
Keeping the kitchen clean and the cupboards sealed is essential. This is not just about comfort, but about living respectfully with the ecosystem and avoiding unwanted animal visitors.
9. The weather can be unpredictable.
You may experience cool, humid, or rainy days at any time, and occasionally even snow, while in the summer, heat can reach 35°C and feel intense with the strong humidity.
10. Distance is part of the experience.
Reaching the town or the beach takes about an hour on foot, and the return journey uphill can take closer to an hour and a half.
11. Community, or solitude, is not guaranteed.
Some days you may be alone, others you may share the space with several guests. We communicate as much as possible, but last minute arrivals are common.
